- Is Granite a natural Stone?
- Granite is a natural stone, formed by the solidification of magma, that can be found in different places around the world.
- Which is stronger Granite or Marble?
- Granite is stronger than Marble.
- What sizes of granite are available?
- Granite is offered in two thickness 3/4″(2cm) and 1-1/4″(3cm), as for width and height it varies but the typical slab dimensions are up to 120″(10ft) wide by 60″(5ft) tall.
- What does laminated mean?
- Laminated means that the counter top has a piece of granite glued along the front of the counter top and with a depth of around 3″(see figure). This technique is used when I client wants a counter that looks thicker without spending on a thicker slab or to make some types of edges such as the Ogee.
- Can granite get stained and do I need to seal it?
- Granite is a highly dense material and relatively porous so it can get stained if a spill is not cleaned promptly. Sealing the surface with a water-based sealant is therefore recommended to protect the granite from water patches and stains. Granite countertops are usually sealed at the factory; however if you need to seal it, it can be done once every two or three years depending on the quality of the sealer ( some last well over 5 years ) and the usage of the countertop.
