HGTV’s Top 10 Amazing Kitchens

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Today I watched HGTV’s tour of the Top 10 Amazing Kitchens, this kitchens where voted onto the show by viewers and my thought was…. what where they thinking? Sure they are huge kitchens but some of the kitchens shown do not deserve to be on the list or position they where listed in.

From that list I would only consider 5 of them as “amazing” kitchens. My top 5 are:

5. The Modern Kitchen, is one of those kitchens people either “love it” or “hate it”. I think that it was designed very well I love the combination of light wood color cabinets, red lacquered cabinets and stainless steel tops. Im not particularly fond of the LED back splash, it does give the kitchen a more unique personality but I think the execution could have been better. I also found amusing that they incorporated a section for the dogs food and water.

4. The Victorian Kitchen, I dont know where to start here, it is a classic design… and at first sight I found the kitchen amazing, but the more I look at the pictures the less impressed I become. It has a lot of details carved into the cabinetry and the kitchen is massive. But I think that it overwhelms the eye it is somewhat busy; nonetheless this is a nice example of a traditional kitchen.

3. The Green Kitchen, IMO is how kitchens should be done, using renewable products. Like I tell some people “green” is the way it is not only a trend. This is a kitchen that can easily be replicated at reasonable cost as the materials necessary to make this kind of kitchen are not expensive.

2. The Minimalist Kitchen, is not as large as some the others on the list but its definitely beautiful. The dark cabinets with stainless steel onyx combination counter tops is very pretty. The main highlight on this kitchen is the island with it’s Onyx counter and LED backlit. However even though I like the use of Onyx I do not think it is the “best” choice for a kitchen counter. If care is not taken it could get damaged easily and replacing it would be expensive, which might not worry the owners of this kitchen.

1. From all the ones shown I really liked their number 3, the Kitchen and Family Room, this kitchen was well thought out and you can tell that it was build for a person who loves to cook and who likes to have people around the kitchen. Some highlights are the pizza oven, 7 ovens( includes microwaves and steam ovens) and toe kick vacuum.

One thing that I noticed is that some of these kitchen do not use overly expensive counter tops. From the quick glances that they showed I think I saw some santa cecilias, giallo ornamental, juparana bordeaux, carrera white and the rest I couldn’t tell

My kitchen was your favorite. They actually had a poll online after the show which had us #1 by a 3-1 lead, but took it down shortly thereafter. Thanks for the compliment, I love my kitchen
